Caernafon and North Wales castles

Wales is also rich of history with almost 600 castles and the most beautiful are in the north, like Caernafon castle. In 1283 King Edward I of England began to build the walled town and this grand scale castle as administrative centre of north Wales. There was a deliberate link with Caernarfon's Roman past and the castle's walls are reminiscent of the Walls of Constantinople. Bettween the others castles Conwy is a spectacular 13th century castle overlooking the sea and Harlech Castle, built by Edward I during his invasion of Wales for UNESCO is one of "the finest examples of late 13th century and early 14th century military architecture in Europe".
