Germany-Bavaria, Ingolstadt

Ingolstadt, the old Asamkirche Maria de Victoria church built by the Jesuits. The famous fresco painted on the ceiling is a fascinating illusion painting, but the church establishes Jesuit roots lending some credence to the Bavarian Illuminati connections. Mary Shelley probably choose Ingolstadt because of this Enlightenment secret society started by a Jesuit professor at Ingolstadt University in 1776. It was a secret society formed within the existing secret society of the Free Masons. While numerous legends about the Illuminati abound, little is known about members, activities or plans from the late 1770s group.
