Lorient. Keroman Submarine Base was a German U-Boat base during World War II capable of sheltering thirty submarines under cover. Although Lorient was heavily damaged the Allied bombing raids could not destroy the base. After the war the base was used by the French Navy until 1997 and at present is open to the public.
