Rocca Imperiale, the old town with the castle built by the Hohenstaufen, a dynasty of German kings (1138–1254) tha ruled also the Kingdom of Sicily. In Italian historiography, they are known as the Svevi (Swabians). The castle is one of the most important strongholds of all Calabria.
