It is the most important preserved structure of its period in Dalmatia.The circular church, formerly domed, is 27 m high and is characterised by simplicity and technical primitivism. It has three radially situated apses and an ambulatory around the central area, surmounted by circular gallery. The circular shape is typical of the early medieval age in Dalmatia. It was built on the Roman forum, and materials from buildings in the latter were used in its construction.

  • Dubrovnik. Revelin Fortress<br />
In the period of Turkish danger theis fortress was built to the east of the city in 1462. The name Revelin derives from rivelino (ravelin), a term in military architecture which refers to work built opposite the city gate in order to afford better protection from enemy attack. It took 11 years to build it, and during that time all other construction work in the city had stopped in order to finish this fortress as soon as possible. The construction work was executed so perfectly so that the devastating earthquake of 1667 did not damage Revelin.

The Sea organ (Croatian: Morske orgulje) is an architectural and an experimental musical instrument, which plays music by way of sea waves and tubes located underneath a set of large marble steps.The device was made (2005) by the architect Nikola Bašić as part of the project to redesign the new city coast (Nova riva). The waves interact with the organ in order to create somewhat random but harmonic sounds.The Sea Organ has drawn tourists and locals alike Concealed under the steps is a system of polyethylene tubes and a resonating cavity that turns the site into a large musical instrument, played by the chance-based results of the wind and the sea waves. In 2006 the Sea Organ was awarded with the prize ex-aequo of the European Prize for Urban Public Space.
